"Music and art both invoke emotions and show characteristics that cannot be replaced by any physical want or desire in the world; for that which music and art invoke are facets of our human nature and needs of our society."
- Matthew Shorraw
All you need to know and more about the Raise Your Voice Festival!
Before the Raise Your Voice Campaign, there was the Raise Your Voice Music & Arts Festival. The main goal of the festival was to unite the community around something positive. "As a musician, I know and see how music can have a positive impact on one’s life. As a life-long resident of Monessen, I see how the community so very much needs to be impacted in a positive way; especially through the youth." Since 2012, the Raise Your Voice Music and Arts Festival has strived to bring positive community involvement around something everyone can enjoy: music and art. Thanks to the support of our Local Partners, we have been able to continue holding music and art events throughout the years, and hope to continue them into the future.
2013's festival brought in over 300 people to Monessen City Park, a staggering rise from the first year's attendance of only 30 people. The festival also featured over 20 bands performing on 3 separate stages, multiple craft and food vendors, arts and crafts for the youth, and even a pottery wheel demonstration. A compilation CD was made featuring original songs from nine of the musicians that performed (check it out here!). Throughout the years, the bands and vendors have changed, but our goals have remained the same.
This year's festival in 2019 hopes to be bigger and better; with support from friends, family, and the community of Monessen. We're looking for motivated, creative people who are interested in being a part of the 8th Annual Raise Your Voice Music and Arts Festival! If this is something you would like to be involved in, we would love to have you! Send us a message here and let us know how you would like to be more involved!
